The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations,[5] more commonly referred
to as Rhode Island (en-us-Rhode Island.ogg /?ro?d 'a?l?nd/ (help·info)
or /r?'da?l?nd/), is a state in the New England region of the United States.
It is the smallest U.S. state by area. Rhode Island borders Connecticut to
the west and Massachusetts to the north and east, and it shares a water boundary
with New York's Fishers Island to the southwest.
